• Congratulations! to IM John Webster from Stoneville, NC who won the 2014 District 9 Open by edging out IM Joe Schwartz for 1st place in the tournament.  Webster did this by not losing a game during the entire tournament.  IM Joe Schwartz took 2nd place and IM Larry Keen placed 3rd in the tournament.
• Congratulations! to CM Gerry Lopez as 4th place and also being recognized as the 2014 District 9 Champion and the 2014 California State Champion.
• Congratulations! to Alejandro "Alex" Villarreal from San Pedro, Mexico as his first ACF tournament.  He entered the rating system as a provisional 1600 and increased by his performance against other rated players.
• Incidentally, Gerry turned 92 on February 14 and still playing master level checkers! tennis, etc.  2/07/2012 The Press Enterprise PE.com - "MURRIETA: Man, 89, is checkers king again"
• Ratings are from ACF, Before and After Ratings are the results of a player's rating before this tournament and after it was recalculated from this score-sheet by ACF rating processor, Joe Moore.
• Masters played a double round robin, which the table above shows the first 5 rounds and rounds 6 through the 8th round was their 2nd Round-Robin being played 4 rounds on Monday, 2 rounds on Tuesday, and finishing up Wednesday. The two Major players only played in the 6 player Round-Robin of 5 rounds. The nice cash prize of $800 was the total paid out for the District 9 Open, and we appreciate the $300 contribution from Joe McDaniel.
• "T" separates player's opponent from player's round game points: Draw is 1, Win is 2 points, Bye is 3, and Forfeit is 4.
• Gerry reported, "We had a small turnout for our 2014 9th District of only six players; however, four master class players entered and the games were hard fought, and two Major class players played in the first 6 player round-robin. The attendance was low but the play was tough. We are looking forward to more attendance next year."
• We give Gerry Lopez a huge "thank you" for his enormous effort in putting this tournament together with assistance from District 9 Manager, Mel Tungate.  I will add Gerry's tournament summary with score-sheet later when I receive it; otherwise, I think everything else should match as results and the payout schedule.
• The score-sheet is temporarily lost, but I did get this from Mel Tungate's email, "I only know that we all played a round together. There were six of us, so we played everyone once.  But, I left at noon on Tuesday, and do not know who played whom after that. Round 1: I played Gerry, and tied one and lost one. John beat Alex twice.  I have no idea how Joe did with Larry Keen.  I think Larry won one and tied one. Round 2: I lost to John twice. Round 3:  I lost to Larry twice, but made him work a little. Round 4:  I lost to Joe twice. Gerry beat Larry one, and they tied one. Round 5: Alex vs Mel, Alex won once, and tied one. So, I lost one and tied one. Gerry was to play Joe.  Larry was to play John. I did not stay to see the results. I know that John and Gerry were tied with (I think) 14 points after the 5th round of the first round-robin.  Larry and Joe were slightly behind. Round 5 for everyone else was scheduled to start at 2PM on Tuesday. They all were going to stay overnight, so I assume the four good players were going to play another round robin, but I might not be correct. They would have had plenty of time to do that."
• I verified Webster and Keen's rounds which with the help from Mel Tungate the above is accurate.
• I received a telephone call from John Webster Monday morning say, "I really missed a great tournament and a lot of fun in Las Vegas!"
